In the webinar “Academic library – an assistant in the scientific research process” organized by the Association of Latvian Academic Libraries (LATABA), which took place on October 20, 2022, the topic of the role of libraries in the involvement of citizens in research was also presented.
The representative of the Library of the University of Latvia, Gita Rozenberga, presented the LibOCS project and two international studies that were made as part of it. The presentation also explained the concept of Citizen Science, the reasons why researchers should involve citizens in their projects and activities, why should people particiate in Citizen Science projects and why – libarians. On the other hand, the results of the studies presented helped launch a discussion on what libraries can do more to help these two parties meet, understand each other and cooperate: researchers and society.
